Do I need planning permission for my extension?

Unless your extension is classed as permitted development, there is a high chance you will need to seek and obtain planning permission before work can commence.

Planning permission is normally needed under the following circumstances:

The materials you use are vastly different from those used on the rest of your home.
You’re using more than half of the land around the house for your extension.
The extension will exceed the highest point of the building it is attached to.
A veranda, balcony or raised platform is added.
The height of eaves is more than 3 metres when they’re within 2 metres of the boundary.
